Building Our Home - Week 32

Week 32 was all about closets, stairs, trim and doors! Sorry about the blurry pictures - took these at night - whoops!

Building Our Home - Weeks 30 & 31

So weeks 30 & 31 were the two weeks of wheat harvest so I didn't make it out to take many pictures!  During those two weeks the ceilings were texturized, the finish guys started - new steps put in, doors placed, etc!

Harvest 2016

Harvest 2016 was a huge success! God provided us with great crops this year that had rain, heat and wind at the perfect times!  This year I finally got to really be a part of Cather harvest. Before we were married I would try to make it down for a weekend during harvest, but work/school/rotations sometimes got in the way.

Dally and I were the meal delivery wagon. No, my job does not entail much, but someone's got to get the amazing food my MIL cooks to them!  After we got everyone fed, I made it a point to hang out there with Ben as many nights as I could. We moved a lot of vehicles, drove the combine and grain cart, took the semi (with no AC or windows that roll up;) ) to town to weigh and dump, and took LOTS of pictures!

Even Sawyer got in on harvest by repping C&C Farms all the way in Colorado - she's definitely the cutest supporter.

We had some visitors too! The Liebelt boys and mama came out and rode around with us a little one night - yes, we ALL were in the combine together. It was a fun night!

This is a picture of the "Cather homestead". Ben's grandparents still live on the farm and can oversee the daily workings of C&C.  It's pretty amazing what they have built. Stretch, Ben's grandpa, was a first generation and has grown into a 3rd generation farm that we are all very proud of.

Many, many long days and nights lead up to the even longer days and nights of harvest. Ben comes home exhausted, but hops right out of bed again the next morning to do it all over again. I am so proud of him and what he does. This season, though exhausting,  is definitely one of my favorites.

Fathers Day 16

We finally convinced Dad to take a weekend off and come down to Anthony.  In honor of Father's Day, we tried to get in all of his favorite things - family time, fishing and golf (may or may not go in that order).  We started out the weekend at the lake Saturday morning, not much luck there, so after lunch we thought we would try out our golf game.

By the end of 9 holes, we were all sweaty, tired and a little sunburnt.

We decided on a short nap and then went and tried out on of our farm ponds that Ben has been really wanting to try out.  It was a HUGE success - well the fact that we caught a fish almost every cast was huge, the fish were not! :)  These little guys were just as fun to try and catch as big ol' catfish, especially with a 95% catch rate!

Needless to say, we spent all evening there (we were ran off by a thunderstorm rolling in - look at that rainbow!) and then went back out the next morning with Em.

It was a great weekend. Love you, Dad

Harvest...so far

Lots of sweat, prayers and hard work had been put into this ground to get to harvest time. The long hours spent working the fields, planting, spraying and kneeling in prayer over it has produced a bountiful crop so far!  Praise God for all the rain we got this year! Our wheat and farmers greatly appreciated it!

This year I have made it a priority that after I drop off meals, Dally and I hop in whatever machine Ben happens to be in at the moment and spend some time with him. He is putting in long hours and we sure miss him at home! I'm not so sure that he always enjoys my constant babbling, but he never seems to complain!  I have it pretty easy as a farm wife at harvest. My mother in law is a rockstar. She makes all the meals and all I do is deliver them out after work and bring the dishes back to her clean!  Not much, but I try to contribute!

Tonight we had some special helpers on the harvest crew! Robyn brought Cohen and Gibson out to ride the combine with us. Yep, all 5 of us piled in there!  Cohen was pretty impressed with all the combines and tractors and Gibby just wanted to hold Dally!  Cohen did such a good job that Mike said he could join their crew next year too! What a fun night.

Harvest '16 Has Begun!

Well after test cuts Monday evening, we are officially started!  The next few weeks will be filled with late hours, date nights in the tractor/pickup/combine, and lots of golden wheat being cut all around us.
